5 Tips for E-marketing Success in 2012

Happy New Year!

A new year has dawned and the bright sunshine and frost are, I think, a cheering sight. I can’t help feeling optimistic when the countryside looks so beautiful. This is a great time of year to apply that optimism to your business.

There is certainly plenty of optimism about this January, whatever the pundits might say. I’ve spoken to several people recently who want to expand their business or who are starting a new business and see e-marketing playing a central role to their future success.

Whatever your situation, my advice still remains the same. Invest in measurable activity which helps you achieve your business goals. So how do you achieve this?

  1. Review your current e-marketing activity and check that it is still “fit for purpose”? Have your products or services changed over the past year? Has your target market evolved? Do you need to reach new audiences with new messages?
  2. Seek new opportunities with a more proactive approach to communications. Many businesses are running to stand still. If you want to move forward, you need to take an active approach. For example, should you make use of new channels? Many of our clients are using social media and looking at more effective ways to use newsletters, eBay or Google Ads?
  3. As technology becomes more accessible and more affordable, are there new tools you can use? Increasing numbers of people are using video and mobile browsing is a given for some businesses. Virtual networking is well understood and webinars or virtual conferences are increasingly popular.
  4. Next you need to take action! Create a short-list of actions you need to take, based on the ones you feel will deliver the best returns. Start with these ideas and begin to roll them out for your business.
  5. Once you have created your action plan, you need to identify the outside resources you will need. You need to find the right people who can deliver the tools you need at a price you can afford. Your contacts will be a great source of recommendations but there’s no reason you should limit your ideas when it comes to creativity. Seek partners who will share your aspirations and who are committed to your goals.

I hope that this has stimulated some ideas for your e-marketing in 2012. If you would like any help getting started or would like me to carry out a project for you, please call on 01608 737653 or email me, Kate Barlow for a free, confidential and independent conversation.
